Veterans Affiliated Council Celebrates 100th Year Anniversary of Serving Sacramento Veterans

Sacramento – On Saturday, May 15, 2021, The Veterans Affiliated Council (VAC) will be having a 100 Year Celebration at the West steps of the Capitol Building, from 11 AM to 5 PM. During this event, there will be a ceremony honoring the legacy of the VAC and Veterans. Resources for veterans will be available on site.

The VAC was commissioned by Governor Hiram Johnson, when he was a US Senator (modern day congress) after his Gubernatorial term in 1921, at a time when there was a clear need for a centralized point of information to facilitate the needs of our Veteran community. Senator Johnson then commissioned the VAC by assembling all the local Veterans Service Organizations and electing Major J. Alexander to lead the Veterans Affiliated Council, Est. 1921. At this time in our history, our nation was rich in love and support for our Veterans as we also erected The Tomb of the Unnamed Soldier in 1921.

“I’m am extremely honored to part take in this event and the work that the VAC has been doing for 100 years to honor all the brave veterans and their loved ones who have given so much to protect our way of life,” Stated Councilmember Eric Guerra, a long time supporter of local veteran organizations, including the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 68 located in District Six.

For 73 years or more, we have been conducting the oldest historical and, quite possibly due to COVID-19, the longest-running traditional ceremony in the Sacramento region,” Stated William Franco, President of the VAC.

VAC will be providing free food for the first 200 people and having a Free Car show for the public to enjoy as well. Ceremony and Booths will be on the West Steps of the Capitol, and the car show will be located on 10th Street between L Street and N Street.

The event will take place from 11 AM to 5 PM at the California State Capitol 1315 10th Street (West Steps). We encourage all attendees to follow County Health COVID-19 guidelines and social distancing requirements.
