SACRAMENTO, CA, Feb 18 (News India)- California Secretary of State Dr. Shirley N. Weber announced the appointment of Dr. Abby K. Wood to the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC).
Dr. Wood serves on the FPPC’s Digital Transparency Task Force. From 2015 to 2017, she served on the Federal Bipartisan Campaign Finance Task Force. Dr. Wood also is an Associate Professor of Law, Political Science and Public Policy at the University of Southern California’s Gould School of Law. Before joining USC Gould, Dr. Wood clerked for the Honorable John T. Noonan, judge of the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She also has consulted on good governance projects in association with USAID, World Bank, National Democratic Institute for International Affairs and UNDP.
Dr. Wood holds a BA from Austin College, a JD from Harvard Law School, an MA in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and a PhD in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
“I am confident that Dr. Wood’s extensive experience with California government and public policy will serve her well as a member of the FPPC,” said Secretary of State Dr. Shirley N. Weber.
The FPPC is a five-member independent, nonpartisan commission responsible for the administration of the state’s Political Reform Act, which regulates campaign financing, conflicts of interest, lobbying, and governmental ethics. The FPPC works to ensure public officials act in a fair and unbiased manner in governmental decision-making, promote transparency in government, and foster public trust in the political system.
The Governor appoints the FPPC chair and one other commissioner of a different political party. The State Controller, Attorney General, and Secretary of State each appoint one commissioner for a four-year term beginning February 1 after each presidential election.
